My opinion
"Melon Galia", the name sounds like a Spanish punkband, but is in
fact, says us the Grand Dictionnaire that is the web, a type of melon, "une
Just about as fresh, sweet and juicy as such a ripe little melon sounds the heavenly
voice of Aurélie Muller, and by extension the music of this Brussels-based
band Melon Galia. Often, the singing is in duuo-fom with the somewhat more
manly and sad sounding Thierry de Brouwer, and it is this duet that makes
for the melodic framework of most of the songs on "Les embarras du quotidien".
Although the lyrics aren't all that cheerful, this cd seems to be hopping. The
musical accompaniment (often with discretly blown trumpets) has the specific gravity
of for example The Style Council or Everything But The Girl. French-English pop
is the reult, a sort of crossbreed between Belle & Sebastian, Isabelle Antena
and Calexico.
Released on the french label "Les Disques Mange-Tout" as their
full-cd debut, this is certainly a charming CD. It starts with the very nicely
designed sleeve & theme, and is continued in the compositions. My "embarras
du quotidien" (little daily annoyance) about this cd is that there's not
enough tracks that manage to step out of line ("une affaire importante",
and "au risque de te plaire" are the best songs). Is there a
danger lying around the corner of being a "one song band"?
But well, Melon Galia is the sort of record that comes to you like a light breeze
on a hot day in the spring: hardly enough to make ripples on the water (of the
pool of contemporary music), but doing a power of good to whomever it's caressing
the face. Hey, it's making my lyrical.
And your opinion?
Did I get it all wrong, or was I spot-on ? Do you want to share your opinion about

concierge ..."
