- Reinout Vangeel voor Uptomusic : "... 'Monokid' is een plaatje met internationale klasse en speelt met invloeden en genres dat het een lieve lust is. Net als bijvoorbeeld 'Vapor Trails' van Autopulver heeft ook 'Monokid' iets ongrijpbaars, iets ondefinieerbaars, iets waar je niet echt je vinger op kan leggen. Als je ons toch vraagt om er een stempel op te plakken, dan situeren we de industrial pop van Yum liefst ergens in de côté van Girls Against Boys, Depeche Mode of zelfs Nine Inch Nails, en dat is een groot compliment, geloof me!"
- Sasha van der Speeten in Rif-Raf (ned. editie) : "Platenfirma Sony weet verdomd goed welke singles ze uit "monokid" moet plukken ... Yum laat de elektronica iets te vaak op de songs primeren en dat is jammer. ... blijkt dat melancholie Yum's sterkste troef is. En wederom een leuke Belgische band erbij".
- lg in Rif-Raf (ed. fr.) : "Ce disque est censé nous emporter dans des nuées aériennes et une ferveur que l'on n'ose plus depuis Tear For Fears, mais s'écrase lamentablement dans la convention. ... d'une fadeur triste et prévisible".
- E.H. in Knack (Focus) : "Net als Das Pop teert Yum op elektropop met een ferme knipoog naar de eighties. Maar daar houdt de vergelijking op. Terwijl Das Pop een ruime blik heeft, verzandt Yum te nadrukkelijk in de synthesizerpop van groepen als Haircut 100, The Buggles of Heaven 17. .... Er lijkt meer tijd in soudn dan in songs gestoken te zijn. Jammer, want de single Fake is uitstekend en slaat moeiteloos de brug naar 2001. ... Geef hen de tijd om rustig te composteren."
