List time!!
Since many radio-makers, hitparade-counters & other weird & sick people choose the year's end to spew all kind of lists, we can imagine it becomes difficult to "see the light trough the lists". To make this even less simple, we add our personal list to the list of lists :

Best Belgian Album in 1999 :

Belgians in Studio Brussel's Eindafrekening of 1999
On December 26, Studio Brussel counted all the episodes of "De Afrekening" together, and found out that 33% of the songs this year were of Belgian make. Other good-scoring bands were Live, Guano Apes, Metallica, Korn, Limp Bizkit and the Goo Goo Dolls.

Best-selling albums in Belgium in 1999
Of the 100 best-selling albums in Flanders, according to Ultratop, not less than 30% were by Belgian artists. This is about the same amount as previous years, although the "Flemish showbizz" fell away and was replaced by "Belgian rock".

To find any more Belgians, we would have to re-nationalize Johnny Halliday.

In Studio Brussel's (all-time) album 100 of 1999, 9 albums from Belgians made the cut. The list is headed by Radiohead's "Ok Computer" and Nirvana's "Nevermind".

Ultratop also made the calculations of the best-selling singles in 1999 this year. Unlike the album top 100 where pop & rock made up a large part of the sales, the belgian contribution in the single-sales are dominated by Flemish dance. Headed by Britney Spears, Lou Bega & R. Kelly, acts that sold most in Flanders were :

Belgians in the "Timeless Top 2000" of Radio Donna
Between december 26 and 31, Radio Donna (national flemish radio-station) broadcasted a user-voted top 2000. The top 5 was rather classic (Bohemian Rhapsody, Summer of '69, Paradise by the Dashboard Light, Child in Time, Music). About 168 of the 2000 songs were Belgian.
