HOLIDAYS AT LAST WITH GORKI
As
the release date of the newest Gorki album "Eindelijk
Vakantie" is getting frightfully close, more and more details about
the album are getting out in the open :
- There's a track on the album that was written and performed together with the
member of DAAU.
- The album was produced by Frank Duchêne, ex-Hooverphonic.
- The new drummer of the band (as their old one is now touring all over Europe
with Arid) is Eric Bosteels, who also part of
Hooverphonic.
- all tracks of the album will be presented this Friday on Studio Brussels, and
the band will be performing some of the new songs live on the radio in the programme
"Club Brussel", next Saturday.
- The current single is "We zijn zo jong"
(but that's no news I guess)
- More info can be found at the website of the band at Sony
Belgium, or at the website of their management Lipstick
Notes.

DE PUTA MADRE WEBCAST
Atrecordings
is organizing a webcast of the concert De
Puta Madre & Friends will be holding at the Ancienne Belgique in Brussels
on February 4th. The site to be is events.atrecordings.com,
at 20:00 CET. The site promises that the audio will also be available after the
event - but even if they can't live up to that promise, the site is still worth
checking out : they present full-length real-audio clips from everything they
sell.
At the AB, De Puta Madre is promoting
their second full-length album "Technik Stonic" (out on their
own 9mm Records), and will be presenting a number of guests on the occasion, such
as Faf Larage from Marseille & E-Life from the Netherlands. The latest single
of De Puta Madre was "Vandal".

WE'VE
BEEN (PRE)NOMINATED FOR A ZAMU-AWARD
We've had to increase the size of our shirt-collars several times during the last
years already, just to get in tune with all the flattering
comments about & the incredible visitor-numbers
of this website, but this tops it all : this site has been (pre)nominated
for a ZAMU-award in the category "media".
For all foreigners or nitwits : the Zamu-awards are the trophy's that are given
to "the most praiseworthy personalities in Belgian music over the last year".
Ahem!
The people that can vote are the members of Zamu, record producers, music publishers,
music sellers, managers, studio-owners, journalists, booking agents, concerts
promoters and radio- & tv-personnel. Needless to say that during the two weeks
they can vote, I love 'em all !!
The awards will be handed out during a ceremony at the Ancienne Belgique on March
7th.

MAURO PAWLOWSKI SOLO-ALBUM IN THE FALL
Mauro Pawlowski, the singer-guitarist of the
late Evil Superstars, has announced
he will be recording a solo-album shortly, in a production by Dave Sardy (who
did the last Evil Superstars album and Soulwax's
"Much Against Everyones Advice").
Lately, Mauro has been on stage during the last ever shows of Kiss
My Jazz, and has also recorded a track for the album of superhero Atomic (see
poptelex December 14, 1999). At "De Nachten",
he already gave a fine showcase of his solo-work.
WHO DOES THE BEST RED ZEBRA COVER?
That is the question Studio Brussel will be asking during the next couple of weeks.
As a successor to "de Basstaard", a competetion in which new bands do
a cover-version of an older song, they have now established "Dé Prijs".
The competition this year has to record a new version of Red
Zebra's punk classic "I Can't Live in
a Living Room".
The competitors are Fence (Mary-Lou is
going great at the moment), Atomic (superhero from outer space, aka DJ
4T4 ... see the popnews of December 14, 1999), Janez
Detd. (still in de Afrekening with "Rock On", and favourites
because they're the only punk band in the lot), Kolk
(drum'n'bass with dutch lyrics, but with a past in wave-related music) and Orange
Black (guitarrock from Kontich). The prize is an original piece of art by
Herman Houbrechts.
You can hear the contest unfolding on Studio
Brussel, during the show "De Puls" in February & March.

"ATTAQUE SURPRISE" by VIVE LA FÊTE
The
first of the dEUS-members that is making good
use of the announced "sabbatical" year of the band, is the phlegmatic
bass-player Danny Mommens with his side-project Vive
La Fête. Two years after the mini-debut album "Je Ne Veux Pas",
Danny & his girlfriend Els Pynnoo have come up with a new full-album
"Attaque Surprise" on Surprise (a new sublabel of Lowlands).
As the previous album, "Attaque surprise"
is filled with funny eighties-like minimalistic french synthpop, as witnessed
by the track "Merde à l'amour".
Vive La Fête will present their love-child at De Nachten this weekend, where
"DJ Deep Danny" will also do two deejay sets in the wee small hours.

ARID TOURS WITH COUNTING CROWS
As the last message about Arid (that of the IMAX-movie
& a gig at the AB, see below) wasn't quite cold yet, here's the next major
news about the band already :
Record company Double T announced today that Arid has landed a spot opening up
on 28 dates in the European Tour of Counting Crows. The tour with Adam
Duritz & Co will start on February 16 and end on April 3, leading them from
England, Ireland, Holland, Germany, Italy, Austria to Scandinavia...
All dates of the tour can be found at the Double
T-website.
In April, Arid will also be at the "Östernacht" of the German WDR-TVshow
Rockpalast.
ANTWERP ARTIST OF THE YEAR
The "Gazet van Antwerpen" is organizing a poll "De Gouden Metropool"
to find out who were the most important people in the province in several fields
(economics, theatre, sports ...) in 1999. The music-category of the poll is a
contest between acapella-band Voice Male (as seen on "de grote prijs
Bart Peeters"), folk-band Laïs
(who are trying to force something in France and Spain at the moment) and rap-crew
Sint-Andries MC's (who are recording
a new album at this very moment produced by DJ Grazzhoppa, Krewcial & Davy
VL).
